David Schlager has established himself as one of the most promising Austrian conductors of his generation. From December 2026, he will direct the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic alongside Daniel Spaw.

Last season, he conducted the Bruckner Orchestra Linz for the first time, as well as at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, the Orchestra Giovanile Filarmonici Friulani and the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini in Parma, as one of only twelve finalists in the prestigious Toscanini Competition.

He was unanimously chosen Winner of the 2nd Constantin Silvestri International Conducting Competition at National Opera Bucharest under none other than Jury President Frédéric Chaslin, who attested the Austrian conductor “a great future ahead”.

While Schlager also received the majority of votes from the Orchestra as well as the Chorus, the finale gala with music by Wagner, Puccini and Enescu marked his debut at National Opera Bucharest.

Furthermore David Schlager has won 1st price at Blue Danube Opera Conducting Competition, followed by his debut at State Opera Stara Zagora (Bulgaria) with "Tosca". Only one month before he had been assigned 3rd price at renowned Concorso Luigi Mancinellli in Orvieto (Italy), conducting excerpts from "Un ballo in maschera". In autumn he will return to Stara Zagora to open the opera saison with "Un ballo in maschera".

Recent competition success had seen him reach the finals at the Ionel Perlea International Conducting Competition in Slobozia (Romania), proving himself in both symphonic and operatic repertoire. In addition to second price, he won the special prizes of the Romanian Craiova Opera and the Sibiu State Philharmonic. His debut with the glamorous gala concert in Sibiu immediately led to a re-invitation and an engagement to conduct the Oradea Philharmonic performing works by Liszt and Bruckner.

David Schlager hat sich als einer der vielversprechendsten, österreichischen Dirigenten seiner Generation etabliert. Ab Dezember 2026 wird er als Doppelspitze gemeinsam mit Daniel Spaw die Philharmonie Bad Reichenhall leiten.

In der vergangenen Saison dirigierte er erstmals das Bruckner Orchester Linz, am Teatro Verdi Trieste, das Orchestra Giovanile Filarmonici Friulani und die Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini Parma als einer von nur zwölf Finalisten des renommierten Toscanini Wettbewerbs.

2024 wurde er unagefochten und einstimmig zum Sieger des zweiten Constatin-Silvestri-Dirigierwettbewerbs an der Nationaloper Bukarest erklärt, wo ihm von niemand geringerem als Frederic Chaslin als Präsidenten der Jury "eine große Zukunft" prophezeit wurde.

Während David Schlager sowohl von Orchester als auch Chor die Mehrheit in der Abstimmung erhielt, markierte die Finalgala mit Musik von Wagner, Puccini und Enescu sein Debüt an der Nationaloper Bukarest.

Im Jahr davor gewann er den 1. Preis der Blue Danube Opera Conducting Competition, was sein Debüt mit "Tosca" an der Staatsoper Stara Zagora (Bulgarien) zufolge hatte. Nur einen Monat davor war er beim renommierten Concorso Luigi Mancinelli in Orvieto (Italien) mit dem 3. Preis ausgezeichnet worden, wo er Auszüge aus "Un ballo in maschera" dirigiert hatte. An die Staatsoper Stara Zagora wird er diesen Herbst zurückkehren, um an diesem Haus mit "Un ballo in maschera" die Opernsaison zu eröffnen.

Ein weiterer Wettbewerbserfolg war das Erreichen des Finales beim Ionel Perlea International Conducting Competition in Slobozia (Rumänien), wo er sich sowohl im symphonischen als auch im Opernrepertoire beweisen musste. Neben dem zweiten Preis wurde er mit Spezialpreisen des State Philharmonic Orchestra Sibiu sowie der Opera Romana Craiova ausgezeichnet. Sein Debüt im Rahmen einer glanzvollen Operngala in Sibiu führte zur sofortigen Wiedereinladung sowie zu einem Engagement bei der Philharmonie Oradea mit Werken von Liszt und Bruckner.
